This picture was the cover of a popular military magazine. It was the era of Washington DC during World War I.
Tis a glimpse of Washington DC. This was taken at Fort McNair, the Army War College, from the front gate looking down 4th Street South West, DC..
The white wall on the left is the side of the street, behind the line of trees is the original Riordan’s Restaurant. The building to the right is a Carbarn. Also behind a line of trees. This was the end of the streetcar line along the Potomac River. Fourth Street is about two blocks from the Potomac River.
This culture was eradicated in the Southwest Urban Renewal project in the 1960’s.
If you drive down Fourth Street today you will see Condominiums and townhouses.
